The association works on the craft of songwriting and helps educate songwriters how to market songs and singer/songwriters. Songwriters of all genres are encouraged to attend and participate. What ever level of songwriter you may be at or even if you are thinking about songwriting as a hobby, they welcome you to join in.. Connie Welch accomplished getting the WAT accredited by the Nashville Songwriter's Association International — putting an international spotlight on East Texas music. Welch says: ...The trips to Nashville was more than I anticipated. I have met so many wonderful people in the music industry and I keep hearing the same thing... "you're from Texas?? what can we do to help. The contacts I have made allow me to bring more Nashville artists to East Texas and vice versa. Through the Nashville Songwriters Association International (NSAI) we are looking forward to more local artists gaining knowledge on how to become better songwriters and promote their music locally and in the music industry. The NSAI is the world's largest not-for-profit songwriters' trade organization. Established in 1967, the membership of more than 5,000 spans the United States and seven international countries. For more than 40 years, the NSAI has strived to serve and protect the rights of aspiring and professional songwriters in all genres of music.
